Like every other creature, snakes are an important part of our ecosystem. They have a role to play in the balance of nature, but occasionally, you may prefer they do so a little further from your backyard. If you’re struggling with snakes getting into your basement or garage, or you want to keep a slithery visitor from bothering your children or pets, it may be time for snake removal.

Snake Removal Safety

Most homeowners automatically take a step back when they catch a glimpse of something slithering through old, dry leaves or lurking in tall grass. North Carolina is home to six types of venomous snakes, so even though you have a good chance of meeting a non-venomous neighbor minding its own business on your shady lawn, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Even non-venomous snakes can bite if they feel threatened, leaving you with a painful injury, even if it isn’t a life-threatening one. So even if you feel completely confident in your snake identification skills and you’re sure the snake is harmless, it’s still a good idea to leave snake removal to the professionals.

Snake Prevention

North Carolina is home to a lot of snakes, but some places are more likely to feel welcoming to them than others. Areas with bodies of water, tall grass, or piled leaves or other debris create cool, quiet areas that feel like the perfect snake habitat. If you want to avoid snake removal in the future, make sure you drain puddles in your yard, cut your grass regularly, and don’t leave old leaves or piles of branches lying around. A tidy yard is far less likely to attract snakes than a wild and woodsy one.
